The Orphans of New York

This pen was for sale at Newark antique fair in December 2012 and has been part of my collection ever since.
If you have the same kind of collector mind as mine, you will be thinking, ‘Why should a bunch of orphans want to present William S Silver with an expensive fountain pen on 7th June 1917?’
He didn’t come over to the US on the Titanic with Kate Winslet but could easily have done since he was a Portuguese emigre. The one image shows a charabanc of some orphans on their way to Coney Island. If you want to know more, the story with all its political incorrectness is told in WES Journal 97 p14 -17.
