A very collectable UK Duofold Senior

Parker Duofold Senior
Year:
1941
Description:
Looking at this pen, a UK Duofold Senior from around WWII, it looks a rather boring brown. When you look more closely, the detail pattern of silver, red and black bricks become visible. I never fail to be impressed that patterns like this were assembled from individual single colours of celluloid into a barrel and cap of this detail. I would love to have watched this being done. How much time does it take? How to you hold the tiny pieces together as they are attached to each other? How much was the person (or people) who did it, paid? How often does the pattern not quite work out to be acceptable as a finished pen?
At the time that this pen style was being made in the UK, American Parker was finishing off its run of Vacumatics, turning out the new 51s and vertical striped, Vac filled Duofolds. This makes this desirable pen easier to find over here, perhaps in the Shows, but altogether harder elsewhere.
The brick pattern is amongst the rarest of patterns of this UK Duofold. Lambrou included it on the cover of his ‘Fountain Pens of the World’. You might be luckier in locating an example as its smaller brother, a Victory, where it might be a little cheaper – if you can find one at all.
